This
is not something new, but this is something most of us totally forget. This is
about how to be happy with the things we HAVE to do. The things we have to do
in life might not be the things we like to do always. Sometimes we might not
like to do that but we are expected to do it. Here is how I managed to be happy
with the things I HAD to do.
I
will take two examples from my life.
Cooking....
Actually cooking was not a thing I liked to do. It was something I complained.
But also it was something I had to do. It took time for me to understand that
cooking is something I have to do and nothing good will happen on complaining
about it. After I understood that truth, I wanted to enjoy cooking. How did I
do that? First I stopped complaining about it and removed the negative thoughts
about it on my mind. What were the negative thoughts I had on that? I felt
cooking kills my time. Sometimes I felt lazy to do it. Some thoughts said it’s
better to be hungry than cooking. :D I wanted to stop all those negative thoughts
coming to my mind and wanted to start concentrate on what I was doing. When I
was going to cook I was in the mind that I'm going to cook. Also when I do
every single thing on cooking I was concentrated on what I was doing. Ex:
when scraping coconut I was thinking now I'm scraping, when I chop onion or cut
vegetables I was in the mind what I was doing. Also when I prepare a curry I
was in the mind what I was doing. Rather than cooking while having something
else in mind and putting something to the curry, this was more effective. I was
taking care of the curry every single minute. Curry powders, garlic, onion and
all other ingredients were put at the correct time in correct amount. Also
I didn't forget to enjoy looking at it while the curry was boiling.
I enjoyed the smell of it. Also when it was finished I didn't just eat it. I
enjoyed the taste, smell, color and everything. So finally cooking became a
thing which brings happiness to me.
I
have another good example from my experiences. I came back to my room after a
one week trip. As I unpacked the things, my room became a messy place. It was
annoying for me even to look at the messy room. I couldn't think from where to
start to clean that. But I understood it was something I had to do. So I started
it, continued slowly, cleaned the mess from one by one. But the important thing
was... I didn't get hurried. I just used my time and enjoyed
cleaning that mess. As an example when I take the flower pot on the table I
took my time to look in to it. I cleaned the dust on it. Also I didn't forget
to see the new look it had. It really brought happiness to the mind. I
completed cleaning the room from one step to another. And the most important
thing was I didn't forget to enjoy the new look of the room. The
feeling I got at the end was not something that I can explain here. But I call
it as happiness.
I
think these two examples are enough to give the message I wanted to explain
here. At the end.... I feel happiness is something that we brought up in our
mind. And it depends on our attitude and how we think. So try to change your
attitude and the way you think. Then the things you complain now will start to
bring you the happiness.
